Nick Welch CCIW Offensive Player of the Week
|Augustana senior quarterback Nick Welch has been named CCIW Offensive Player of the Week.|
ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -Augustana senior quarterback Nick Welch (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Offensive Player of the Week. Welch completed 18 of 22 passes for 347 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead the Vikings to a 34-10 win over Loras in their 2012 home opener.
Welch hooked up with junior wide receiver Nick Krantz (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) for a 78-yard touchdown on Augustana's second play from scrimmage and was a perfect seven-for-seven for 172 yards in the first half as the Vikings took a 17-0 lead. He connected with sophomore Torre Harrell (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) for a 24-yard score and flipped a one-yard touchdown toss to junior Kyle Snow (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) in the third quarter. In addition to the bomb to Krantz, he had five other completions of more than 20 yards in the contest, including 41-yarders to Krantz and Marty Resner (Oswego HS, Montgomery, Ill.).
On the year, Welch has completed 28 of 46 passes (60.9%) for 543 yards and four touchdowns against two interceptions. His 180.03 passer rating is currently 12th in the nation at the Division III level.
Nick is the son of Gene and Christina Ewbank of Oswego, Illinois and is a secondary education and history major.
North Central's Joey Michals and Nick Dace were named Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.
