April 09, 2012
WVIK-90.3 F.M., Augustana's Public Radio station, will host A Little Night Music, a concert given by Augustana faculty members, at 7 p.m. April 18 in Wallenberg Hall, inside the Denkmann Memorial Building.
The event is sponsored by Tony Singh and the Singh Group of Merrill Lynch.
This performance is a new, free appreciation event for WVIK members — those who donate to the station. Tickets are $10 for non-members, who will have the opportunity to become a member of WVIK.
The concert will consist of diverse solo and chamber pieces by composers such as Richard Rodney Bennett, Witold Lutoslawski and Francis Poulenc. Augustana faculty members to perform include Dr. Charles Schmidt, Janet Stodd, Dr. Michelle Crouch, Dr. Samantha Keehn, Deborah Dakin, Dr. Robert Elfline and Dr. Janina Ehrlich.
"This salon event will be a great concert in a beautiful location, and it's a chance for people to listen to different kinds of music," said Jennifer Blohm, WVIK director of development .
WVIK offers music, news programming and the Augustana Public Radio Information Service (APRIS), which provides free readings of local and regional newspapers for the visually and physically impaired. WVIK has partnered with other public media stations in Illinois to offer Illinois PBS LearningMedia. This free, on-demand media resource from PBS is designed to help PreK-12 educators integrate technology such as videos, interactive images, audio files and mobile apps into the classroom to teach core subjects.
