2012 Season - Harrell & Voland win CCIW honors

Augustana's David Voland (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) and Torre Harrell (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) have been name the "Track Athlete of the Week" and "Field Athlete of the Week", respectively, for men's track & field in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. The freshmen duo helped lead the Vikings to a team victory at the 51st annual Viking Olympics in Rock Island, Illinois on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31.
Voland put together a string of impressive performances throughout the weekend. A blazing finish in the 400 meter hurdles resulted in him clocking a time of 53.95 seconds which was good enough for the win. That time is also has him ranked fifth in the nation in the event. Voland also ran a leg of both the winning 1600 meter relay and shuttle hurdle relay teams. The 1600 meter relay finished in 3:16.45, which is currently the third fastest time in the nation, and the shuttle hurdle relay team broke the Augustana school record in a time of 1:02.30. Voland also placed eighth in the high hurdles with a time of 15.52 seconds.
Harrell was also an event winner over the weekend. He won the long jump with a leap of 23' 6 ¼", outdistancing second place by over two feet. Harrell's jump has him ranked third on the national list for the event.
Voland, a biology major, is the son of Richard and Nancy Voland of Batavia, Illinois. Harrell is the son of Terrance and Debra Harrell and is undecided on his major.
