Sophomore Taelar Hillyer was named the "Field Athlete of the Week" in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin after she won the Augustana-Ashford-St. Ambrose Triangular with a leap of 11' 7 3/4". That is the second best mark in Augustana indoor history.

Sophomore Taelar Hillyer (Rock Island Alleman Catholic HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) has been named the "Athlete of the Week - Field Events" for women's track & field in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. Hillyer was honored after her performance at the triangular meet between Augustana, Ashford and St. Ambrose on Thursday, February 16. The meet was held at the PepsiCo Center and the Carver PE Center on the Augustana campus.

Hillyer won the pole vault with a leap of 11' 7 ¾" last Thursday. That is the second best indoor jump in Augustana history, trailing only the school record mark of 12' 11 ½" recorded by Meghan Voiland in 2007. The previous second best leap was 11' 6 ¼ by current Augustana assistant coach Kali Minkler Petit, also in 2007.

Hillyer's previous best this season had been 11' 1 ¾" when she won the Augustana Invitational on February 11. She also won the pole vault at the Jim Green Invitational in Jacksonville, Illinois on February 4 with a jump of 10' 9 ½". Hillyer won the Midwest Indoor Invitational at Monmouth on January 21 with a leap of 10' 6" and she placed second at the Sol Butler Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa on January 14, also with a clearance of 10' 6".

She is the third member of the Augustana women's track & field team to win "Athlete of the Week" honors from the CCIW this season. Junior distance runner Sarahbeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) was the "Track Athlete of the Week" on January 24 and sophomore thrower Liana Beauchamp (Genoa-Kingston HS, Kingston, Ill.) was the "Field Athlete of the Week" on January 31.

Hillyer is an English major at Augustana.
