Sophomore Liana Beauchamp (Genoa-Kingston HS, Kingston, Ill.) has been named the "Athlete of the Week - Field Events" for women's track & field in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. Beauchamp was honored after her performance at the Wartburg Lutheran Triangular in Waverly, Iowa on Saturday, January 28.
Beauchamp placed third in the 20 pound weight throw with a heave of 15.19 meters (49' 10"). That is the second best performance in Augustana indoor history, trailing only the school record of 52' 2 ½" set by Paula Neiween in 2009. Beauchamp entered the season third on the list after throwing 47- 4 ½" last year as a freshman. She passed Marissa Banks, who was second with a mark of 49' 8 ½" from 2009.
In the first meet of the 2012 indoor season, which was at the Sol Butler Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday, January 14, Beauchamp recorded a throw of 45' 6 ¼" and placed fifth. She did not compete at the Midwest Invitational on Saturday, January 21 in Monmouth, Illinois.
Beauchamp is a biology/pre-medicine major. She is the second Viking this season to be honored by the CCIW. A week earlier junior Sarahbeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) was named the "Athlete of the Week - Track Events" after the Midwest Invitational.
