2011-12 Season - Vikings take second at IWU Invite

Junior Emily Timmons placed second in the 500 freestyle, fourth in the 200 individual medley, eighth in the 100 breaststoke and swam on the third place 200 medley relay team to help Augustana finish second in the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, November 19 in Bloomington, Illinois.

Sophomore Helen Myers (Pecatonica HS, Rock City, Ill.) won both diving events at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, November 19 in Bloomington, Illinois.  Those two wins helped propel Augustana to a second place finish in the team standings of the six-team meet.

The Vikings tallied 123 points, trailing only host Illinois Wesleyan’s winning point total of 181. Millikin (81), Illinois College (47), Principia (25) and Eureka (3) rounded out the field.

Myers, who won the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship in both the one and three meter diving events last February in the same pool, was impressive on Saturday. She scored 189.95 to win the one meter and then piled up 208.85 off the three meter. She was the lone Augustana winner.

Juniors Emily Timmons (West Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.) and Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) recorded the best individual finishes in the swimming portion with seconds in the 500 freestyle and 100 breaststroke events, respectively. Timmons was the runner-up in the 500 in 5:48.62 while Regnier claimed second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.91.

Regnier placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:26.11) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.10) while Timmons took fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:27.92) and the 100 breaststroke (1:19.25). Both also contributed to relay teams as well.
Timmons handled the third leg on the 200 medley relay team that opened the meet by finishing third in 2:06.48. She was joined by junior Hollyann Kabbe (Fenton HS, Bensenville, Ill.), freshman Laura Pemberton (Fremont HS, Fremont, Neb.) and sophomore Danna Jensen (Dundee Crown HS, Algonquin, Ill.). The final event of the day was the 200 freestyle relay and Regnier swam the third leg on the team that placed third in 1:50.20. Junior Molly Clennon (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.), sophomore Erin Doty (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) and sophomore Hillary Ferguson (Waubonsie Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) rounded out that unit.

Ferguson was third in the 50 freestyle in :26.26 and came back with a seventh place finish in the 100 freestyle in :59.00. Clennon took third in the 500 freestyle (5:50.48), fifth in the 200 freestyle (2:09.08) and sixth in the 100 freestyle (:58.94).

Pemberton placed sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.75) and seventh in the 200 individual medley (2:32.00). Jensen grabbed sixth in the 100 backstroke in 1:13.47. Kabbe added a seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:14.00) and an eighth in the 50 freestyle (:27.96). Doty was seventh in the 500 freestyle in 6:02.28 with junior Alexandra Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) taking seventh in the 50 freestyle with a time of :27.71.

Freshman Beth Cole (Muscatine HS, Muscatine, Iowa) was eighth in the 100 backstroke in 1:14.00 and sophomore Elizabeth O’Hara (Westosha Central HS, Salem, Wis.) was eighth in the 500 freestyle at 6:10.24.
