What is a Meal Plan?
A Meal Plan is a pre-paid account for your on-campus dining purchases. Meal Plans are set up at the beginning of each academic term and are charged to your tuition bill. Meal Plans include a set number of Meal Swipes and Viking Bucks which are electronically loaded onto your student ID. Whenever the card is used, your Meal Plan account balance is automatically debited.
What is a Meal Swipe?
Meal Swipes are the first part of your Meal Plan and can be used to purchase meals at the all-you-can-eat Gerber CSL Dining Room or to pay for Meal Bundles at our a-la-carte dining areas which include, the Snack Bar, Brew and Westernlin C-Store. (Meal Swipes on the Any 75 & Any 90 Meal Plans roll over term-to-term during the academic year.) Any Meal Swipes left in your account at the end of the academic year are forfeited.
What are Viking Bucks?
Viking Bucks are the second part of your Meal Plan and are valued dollar-for-dollar. They can be used at any Augustana Dining Services location on campus; this includes the Gerber CSL Dining Room, Brew, Westerlin C-store, Snack Bar, and our concession stands at Knowlton Outdoor Athletics Complex & Carver P.E. Center. All Viking Bucks roll over term to term during the academic year. Any Viking Bucks left in your account at the end of the academic year are forfeited.
Who is required to have a Meal Plan?
To help ensure our On-Campus students are having nutritious meals, all Freshmen and Sophomores are required choose one of our On-Campus Meal Plans. Off-Campus Juniors, Seniors & Commuter Students are not required to have a Meal Plan but may choose from any of the Meal Plans we offer.
How do I sign up for a Meal Plan?
Freshmen & Sophomores are automatically assigned the Any 15 Meal Plan. Juniors & Seniors wanting a Meal Plan can add a plan by calling or stopping in to see us at the Dining Services Office at any time. Any changes to the type of Meal Plan you are on, must be made during the first two weeks of the term. Adding additional Viking Bucks or Meal Swipes to your Meal Plan can be done at any time.
How can I check my Meal Plan account balance?
Meal Plan account balances can be checked by asking a cashier at any of our dining locations or by calling or stopping in at the Dining Services Office.
Can I add additional Viking Bucks or Meal Swipes to my account?
You can add additional Viking Bucks or Meal Swipes to your account at any time, simply visit or call the Dining Services Office. In order to add Viking Bucks to your tuition bill, you need to add a minimum of $50 to your account. (Smaller purchases need to be paid for with credit/debit cards or cash.) Blocks of 25 Meal Swipes can be added to your Meal Plan and charged to your tuition bill.
What happens to Meal Swipes & Viking Bucks I don't use?
Viking Bucks & Off-Campus Meal Plan Swipes roll over term to term during the academic year. At the end of the academic year, all Meal Swipes & Viking Bucks are forfeited. No refunds are given.
How much do meals cost at the Gerber CSL Dining Room?
Students with Meal Plans can use Meal Swipes in the CSL Dining Room. All other visitors can purchase a meal using Viking Bucks, credit/debit cards or cash. Meals in the CSL are all-you-can-eat.
Costs per meal are:
Breakfast $ 8.00
Lunch $ 9.00
Dinner $ 11.25
What is Continuous Dining?
At our CSL Dining Room we offer the convenience of Continuous Dining which means we are ready to serve you a hot meal anytime during the Dining Room's open hours. You can visit our all-you-can-eat Dining Room anytime of the day, from the time we open, til the time we close.
Is carry out available at the CSL Dining Room?
Yes! At our CSL Dining Room, we offer the option of creating your own To-Go Meal which can be paid for with Meal Swipes, Viking Bucks, cash, credit/debit cards or checks.
How do I get a To-Go Meal at the CSL Dining Room?
Reusable To-Go Meal containers and beverage mugs are available at the CSL Dining Room. To-Go Meals are the same price as a sit down meal and Meal Swipes can be used. Due to the open availability of food in our Dining Room, guests are allowed 15 minutes to fill their container. The container must be able to close when you leave the Dining Room. One To-Go container & mug is included with the On Campus Meal Plans. To be issued your first container, ask at the register. After you receive your first container it is your responsibility to keep track of it. Don't have an On Campus Meal Plan, no problem, To-Go Meal containers and mugs can also be purchased for $4 each. Due to the type of plan, students with the Gold Plan Unlimited Meal Plan are not allowed to use the To-Go Meal or Meal Bundle options.
What if I can't make it to the CSL Dining Room for dinner before they close?
Though we offer Continuous Dining we understand that there are just times, your schedule won't allow you to make it to the CSL Dining Room before it closes. To help ensure you can still have a nourishing meal, we have extended hours at the Brew & Westerlin C-Store where you can build your own Meal Bundle. We also offer To Go Meals at the CSL Dining Room. With a little pre-planning, you can truly can have a meal of your choice anytime of the day!
What is a Meal Bundle?
Meal Bundles generally include choice of entreé, two sides dishes, and a drink. Meal Bundles can be purchased using a Meal Swipe. Meal Bundles are available at the C-Store, Snack Bar & Brew.
Entreés include items like: Grab-n-Go housemade Sandwiches, Wraps, Salads, Yogurt Parfaits, Veggie Trays, Fruit Trays and more. (Hot Grill items are also available as an entreé option at the Snack Bar.) Side Dishes include items like: Pasta Salad, Cottage Cheese, Carrots, Apple Slices, Fresh Fruit, Cheese Sticks, or Chips. Drinks include items like: Canned Soda or Bottled Water.
Can friends join me in the CSL Dining Room if they aren't planning on eating?
Due to the open availability of food in our dining room, only those who have purchased a meal are allowed. When leaving, only an ice-cream cone or cookie may be taken from the dining room.
Can I advertise a campus event using table tents at the CSL Dining Room?
We are happy to allow you to advertise your event at the CSL Dining Room, Brew & Snack Shop. Simply schedule a block of days with our Dining Services Office to reserve your dates. When your block begins, bring your table tents and set them up. When your block of days close, we will take the table tents down and recycle them for you. (If you wish to keep the table tents, please plan on coming and gathering them the last day of your blocked time!)
Where is the Dining Services Office located?
We are located in the CSL Dining Room, just ask the cashier to point you in the right direction. You can visit our Dining Services Office Monday-Friday from 8:00a-4:30p.
What if I have special dietary needs?'
Our dining locations over a variety of Gluten Free, Vegetarian & Vegan options daily to help make dining at our campus a enjoyable experience for all our guests. This year we have also added Halal options once a day in the Gerber CSL Dining Room. If you wish to speak to a manager for more information regarding your dietary needs, please contact our Dining Services Office.
