DESCRIPTION:President Steve Bahls will dedicate a new campus clock and thank donors Keith and Eileen Carpenter for their generosity.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;\n\nThe dedication will begin at 11:30 a.m. in front of the Thomas Tredway Library\, where the clock has been installed. The campus community is invited.\n\nThe gift honors the legacy of Eileen Carpenter's uncle\, Augustana Professor Emeritus Clarence “Chad” Meyer ’51\, who died in 1993.\n\nHe graduated from Augustana with a bachelor of arts degree in speech. He graduated with a master's degree in public speaking and theater from Northwestern University\, Evanston. Meyer also did graduate work at Stanford University in radio and television&nbsp\;and at Yale University in drama.\n\nMeyer joined the Augustana faculty in 1953.&nbsp\;He was promoted to associate professor in 1964.&nbsp\;In 1990\, he retired as professor emeritus in speech communications. Alumni may remember that he taught debate\, persuasion and theatre arts in earlier years.\n\nHe also produced "Augustana&nbsp\;Presents\," a weekly show on Rock Island's WHBF-TV which featured academic&nbsp\;departments and various activities on campus. The program ran for 35&nbsp\;years.\n\nThe Chad Meyer Scholarship at Augustana was established by speech communication majors\, and is awarded to a junior or senior majoring in speech communication recommended by the department.\n
