DESCRIPTION:The Department of English will host award-winning poet\, activist\, translator and memoirist Carolyn Forché as this year’s first author in the River Readings series. Forché will read from her 2019 memoir\, "What You Have Heard Is True."\n\nCarolyn Forché’s first book of poems\, "Gathering the Tribes\," won the Yale Series of Younger Poets Prize. Her 1993 international anthology "Against Forgetting" was praised by Nelson Mandela as “itself a blow against tyranny\, against prejudice\, against injustice.”\n\nA reception will follow the reading.&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\n
