DESCRIPTION:Dr. Karen Andeen '03\, assistant professor in physics at Marquette University\, will speak on "Decoding Cosmic Messages from the South Pole."\n\nThe IceCube Neutrino Observatory consists of more than 5\,500 basketball-sized light detectors melted deep into the South Pole icecap. These photodetectors are sensitive to the blue light emitted in the surrounding clear ice when cosmic messengers from some of the most violent processes in the universe pass through the earth.\n\nDr. &nbsp\;Andeen&nbsp\;began her career at Augustana&nbsp\;and has since worked and studied on six &nbsp\;continents.\n&nbsp\;\n\n&nbsp\;\n
