The Hurty Family Challenge

Augustana College has announced a full-scale renovation of Larson Hall through the generosity of the family of Dr. Jon Hurty, Augustana Choir director.

The estate of Dr. Hurty’s late parents, David and Dr. Kathleen Hurty, will match all gifts to the Hurty Family Challenge up to $90,000 to completely renovate Larson Hall.

Since Bergendoff Hall’s completion in 1959, the choir has called Larson Hall its home. The hall holds memories of music, friendship and once-in-a-lifetime experiences for generations of choir members.

Before the gift from the Hurty family’s estate, Larson Hall was scheduled only for a light renovation. Now, the renovation will provide a state-of-the art space for Augustana Choir rehearsals, transforming the space for continued musical excellence.

Renovations will include acoustic enhancements, such as a rebuilt Schroeder Diffuser and new acoustic panels. Aesthetic enhancements will include paint, new doors and flooring, and improved lighting.
