The Hurty Family Challenge

In the spring of 2023, Augustana College announced the Hurty Family Challenge, a full-scale renovation of Larson Hall through the generosity of the family of Dr. Jon Hurty, Augustana Choir director. That challenge is now complete thanks to the generosity of more than 110 alumni and friends of the Augustana Choir. Thank you to the donors who made this transformation possible. All donors giving at the amounts below will be listed on a plaque outside of the rehearsal room.

The estate of Dr. Hurty’s late parents, David and Dr. Kathleen Hurty, matched all gifts to the Hurty Family Challenge up to $90,000 to completely renovate Larson Hall, transforming the space into a state-of-the-art rehearsal room, matching the high artistic standards of the Augustana Choir.

Renovations include acoustic enhancements, such as a rebuilt Schroeder Diffuser and new acoustic panels. Aesthetic enhancements will include paint, new doors and flooring, and improved lighting.

Giving levels for the challenge include:

  • Conductor level: $5,000 and above
  • Gold level: $2,500
  • Blue level: $1,000
  • Augustana Choir level: $500
