Honor Band Festival registration and schedule
The 2015 Augustana Honor Band Festival will take place Jan.18-19. Band members from high schools in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin will join forces for a two-day rehearsal and performance under guest conductor Dr. Terry Austin. Dr. Austin received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University and his master's from University of Hawaii. His doctoral degree in Philosophy of Music Education comes from University of Wisconsin - Madison. Currently serving as the Director of Bands at Virginia Commonwealth University, his musical excellence has earned a reputation as he's worked with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
Austin is a president-elect of the American Bandmasters Association, chairman of the National Band Association, a member of the Board of Directors of the John Philip Sousa Foundation. He is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Beta Mu, and is an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi. He is a past president of the Virginia Music Educators Association.
He is an active guest conductor and is published in several journals while also serving as the general editor of The Journal of Band Research, A Repertoire Anthology (1964-1989). In the fall of 2013 he was the guest conductor of the Musashino Academia Musicae Wind Ensemble in Tokyo.
Directors may submit up to 10 nominated students by the Nov. 27 deadline. Directors may submit one student at a time (up to 10), but they only need to complete the director's information once. Complete all fields before submitting, including student's year in school.

Sunday, Jan. 18
2-5 p.m. Registration and chair placement audition assignments; Office of Hall
Management (formerly Cultural Events Office), Room 64, lower level of Bergendoff.
5-5:30 p.m. Directors Meeting with Terry Austin Ensemble Room, Bergendoff.
6:15 p.m. Seating for Blue Band on stage of Centennial Hall. Seating for Gold Band in Ensemble Room.
6:30-9:30 p.m. Full rehearsal of both Festival Bands. Blue Band on stage of Centennial Hall;
Gold Band in Ensemble Room. Breaks taken as necessary.
Monday, Jan. 19
7-8:15 a.m. Breakfast in Center for Student Life Dining Center. Participants must wear their festival nametags to
get breakfast at no charge.
8:30-11:30 a.m. Full rehearsal session of Blue Band in Ensemble Room; full rehearsal session of Gold Band on stage of Centennial Hall.
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Lunch served in Center for Student Life Dining Center. Participants must wear their festival nametags to get lunch at no charge.
Noon-1:30 p.m. Directors' Luncheon, Board Room (3rd Floor of the College Center)
1-1:30 p.m. Terry Austin rehearsal with Gold Band in the Ensemble Room.
1:30-4 p.m. Final rehearsal session of Blue Band in Centennial Hall; final rehearsal session of Gold Band in Ensemble Room.
4-5:45 p.m. Dinner break on your own. Augustana Symphonic Band rehearsal with
6-6:20 p.m. Dressed and in Centennial Hall.
6:30-8 p.m. Finale Concert: Performances by the Augustana Symphonic Band and the Festival
Bands. Open to the public with no admission charge; Centennial Hall.
