Geography and Environmental Studies
For nearly 30 years the geography department has had a strong commitment to teaching classes focusing on environmental policy, environmental stewardship and ecological sustainability. The department continues that tradition today through numerous classes, guest lectures, and hands on experience.
An environmental learning community is available offering Environmental Conservation and Development (Geography 308) and Environmental Literature (English 315). Students look at case studies and various conservation and design practices and read works by environmental authors such as Henry David Thoreau and John McPhee. Students also volunteer their time at Augie Acres, an on-campus garden, and at Wesley Acres, an organic farm located just outside the Quad Cities.
