Entering the Program

 

Admission to the first Education course:

EDUC-300, Educational Psychology and Measurement

 Students may be enrolled in EDUC-300 when they have:

  1. Earned at least 27 semester credits including AP and transfer courses.
  2. Declared an education major.
  3. Met with an Education Advisor to plan their schedule and discuss qualifications.
  4. Earned a minimum Augustana GPA of 3.0.
    • Students with overall GPAs of 2.75-2.99 may be enrolled if space is available and they have had at least one term with a 3.0+ GPA.
  5. Earned at least a B- in
    • LSFY-101 or its equivalent
  6. A test of basic skills is required by the State of Illinois for admittance to any teacher education program.  All students must pass one of the following before taking any education course beyond EDUC-300.
  • ACT Plus Writing - composite of 22 or better
  • SAT - composite of 1030 or better
  • Pass the TAP (Test of Academic Proficiency - Illinois' own test.)

 

Admission to Teacher Education

 Admission to the Teacher Education Program is by written application, typically submitted during the EDUC-300 course and considered after the end of that term. To be eligible students must have:

  1. Completed EDUC-300 with a minimum grade of C.
  2. Earned a minimum Augustana GPA of 3.0.
    • Students with overall GPAs of 2.75-2.99 may be admitted provisionally, in which case they must achieve a 3.0 GPA each term until a 3.0 overall GPA is reached.
  3. Submitted a complete, written application.
  4. Passed the Illinois Test of Academic Proficiency or received at least a 22 on the ACT plus Wrting or 1030 on the SAT.
