Sweet Art

Best known for its cakes, Sweet Art has left an indelible mark both in Australia and overseas as the leading light in creativity and style over the last 25 years. Owner Anthea Leonard began Sweet Art in Sydney in 1980 and made a name for herself creating edible sculptures. It was not till 1985 that Anthea began to put her talents to re-design the way traditional wedding cakes were assembled. Her signature designs still receive the great compliment of being copied throughout the industry. On the back of this success, Sweet Art has progressed into many diversified aspects of event management and now offers event styling, stationery design and flower arrangements.

Why are you participating in the "Augustana in Australia" program?

I have always wanted to travel abroad, especially to Australia.  I have a cousin who studied abroad there and another one who lives there with his family.  Besides getting to experience the culture of Australia, I also get to get immersed in the culture by interning there.  This is an experience of a lifetime and I cannot wait to get started!

What value do you hope to add back to the internship site?

I hope to bring knowledge from the classes I have taken at Augustana as well as bring my experiences to the company.  It will be interesting because I will have different insight that they may not think of because I am from another country.

What do you hope to learn on your internship?

I hope to learn more about the business world and what to expect when I graduate from college.  The economy has been tough lately, so an internship is a good way to get experience.  I hope to see some of the concepts I have learned in class actually put into action.

Where do you plan to travel during your term "down under?"

I plan on traveling to the Great Barrier Reef as well as many of the beaches that Australia has.  I want to see some historical, tourist, and local places as well.

What do you anticipate to be the highlight of your experience "down under?"

I anticipate the highlight of my experience to be learning to live and work in the real world while being in a different country and getting used to their culture.  Traveling to Australia is the experience of a lifetime and I am so happy to be a part of this program.
