Why are you participating in the "Augustana in Australia" program?
I have wanted to participate in the Augustana in Australia program since my freshman year. First of all, it is an amazing opportunity to travel to a foreign country. I have always wanted to visit Australia and what better time to do it then in college, while learning. As a business major, I was also very interested in the Internship aspect of the program. I thought it would be an incredible experience to have an internship in a foreign country. Having job experience in a foreign country will definitely be attractive to employers in my job search.
What value do you hope to add back to the internship site?
I hope that this internship will help gain exposure for the internship site and make other students utilize it more.
What do you hope to learn on your internship?
I hope to learn first and foremost about the culture in Australia. It seems like a very unique and interesting lifestyle and I am excited to immerse myself in that for the 8-10 weeks that I am there. I plan on getting a sports based intership, and I hope to learn from this internship if sports business could be a possible career path for me.
Where do you plan to travel during your term "down under?"
I hope to travel to the Great Barrier Reef and go scuba diving. I also would enjoy taking a trip into the outback and do some exploring there. I also have heard great things about the gold coast and would like to check that out as well.
What do you anticipate to be the highlight of your experience "down under?"
While the job experience will be my priority of my time down there, I really expect the overall experience of living in Australia for 8-10 weeks to be the highlight of my trip. Australia is so far away from the U.S. and not many people get the opportunity to visit it. I don't know if I will ever be able to go back, so I am going to try to see as much as I can and immerse myself into their culture as much as possible while I am there. I think traveling around and experiencing as much as possible will be the highlight of my experience.
