Why are you participating in the "Augustana in Australia" program?

My reasoning for participating in the "Augustana in Australia" program is because it truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Traveling to Australia will provide me with the opportunity to grow academically and as an individual. The "Augustana in Australia" program will expose me to new real-life experiences that I otherwise may never experience. From these experiences I expect to learn more about myself and where I would like to end up in the future. The "Augustana in Australia" program will also provide me with the opportunity to branch out and build new relationships with my peers. I am excited to get to know new people and create new experiences.

What value do you hope to add back to the internship site?

The value that I hope to add back to the internship is my knowledge of American education and my knowledge of working with students and other adults. I am currently student teaching and learning so much in the process about education and working with young individuals. I hope that I can apply the knowledge I have obtained through student teaching to benefit the individuals that I end up working with at my internship site. Student teaching has exposed me to a variety of skills and experiences that would help me succeed in a variety of different internship sites. Student teaching has taught me organizational skills, communication skills, social skills, behavior management skills, and collaboration skills.

What do you hope to learn on your internship?

During my internship I would like to further my knowledge of education in a different country. I would like to learn the strategies used in education along with what is valued in Australian education systems. I hope to further my skills as an educator as well as expanding my skills on a professional level.

Where do you plan to travel during your term "down under?"

Cairns Great Barrier Reef

What do you anticipate to be the highlight of your experience "down under?"

I think the overall experience will be unforgettable. However, I believe traveling to the Great Barrier Reef will be one of the many highlights of my experience in Australia. I also think that becoming a part of the culture and taking part in the everyday life of an Australian will be another highlight of my experience "down under".
