Elisa's pre-trip thoughts

Internship:   I am interning at Four Seasons Hotel Sydney.  This is a worldwide 5-star hotel franchise chain.  Their goal is perfecting the travel experience through continuous innovation and highest standards of hospitality.  I will be in the Human Resources Department.

Why are you participating in the Augustana in Australia program?   I wanted to experience a study program that offers something more than the Midwest offers.  Visiting Australia is a dream for me.  Having an internship there will set me apart from many people when continuing my studies and starting my career.

What value do you hope to add back to the internship site?  Not only will my internship add value to my life and career, I hope to add something new to my department.  I hope to show Aussies I am not an "ugly American" and exceed the expectations of my supervisors.

What do you hope to learn on your internship?  I want to learn how to put my academic work to use.  I have been focused on finance, therefore being a part of Human Resources will be a great new learning experience.

Where do you plan to travel during your term "down under"?   I hope to travel to the Great Barrier Reef, to go bungee jumping in Cairns, and go to a surf camp.  I want to be spontaneous and jump in to travel with people.

What do you anticipate to be the highlight of your experience "down under"?  Learning about intercultural differences between the United States and Australia.  I plan to relax and embrace a new culture and see the world from a new perspective.
