Joanna Davis

Visiting Assistant Professor of Business Administration

Dr. Joanna Davis currently teaches business classes at Augustana College.

Before coming to Augustana, Dr. Joanna Davis taught graduate and undergraduate courses in organizational leadership and business administration at Clarke University with the rank of assistant professor. She has taught many business administration courses, which include: human resource management, organizational behavior, organizational leadership, business communication, marketing, and business strategy. Within these courses, she utilizes andragogy teaching techniques that address the concept of conceptual thinking by using different individual learning approaches and course emphasis techniques which stressed the importance of student-centered learning.

In addition to her education, she possesses a current SPHR (Senior Professional Human Resource) certification and has provided professional service to the human resource community. This professional service includes having served a three-year term as the executive board president for TRIHRA (Tri-State Human Resource Association), served as the executive board secretary for TRIHRA, served as a member of the Iowa SHRM State Council, and served as the conference app chair for the Iowa SHRM State Conference for the past three years. Starting in 2023, she will serve as the chapter president-elect for the Great River Human Resource Association (GRHRA).

Her current research interests are within the field of careers literature, which includes the topics of career engagement, career behavior, and networking. In 2020, she published a paper in the Journal of Vocational Behavior, titled “Networking via LinkedIn: An examination of usage and career benefits.” In 2016, she presented a paper at the Academy of Management annual meeting, titled “An exploratory study of the usage, drawbacks, and career benefits of social networking sites.” She has also presented papers at the Midwest Academy of Management conference.

In her spare time, she enjoys running (working towards completing her second marathon), reading and writing science fiction short stories, and spending time with her family.
