Augustana offers public workshop in College Search 101

The Augustana College Office of Admission will provide free instruction on the college search process through College Search 101, a program offered free to the public Thursday, July 31. High school students and their families, guidance counselors, teachers and others are invited to participate in College Search 101, a half-day workshop detailing key aspects of the college search process hosted by Augustana College. The workshop is open to the public free of charge. To register, contact the Augustana College Office of Admissions at (309) 794 -7341 or see www.augustana.edu/collegesearch101.

"The college search can seem like such a daunting experience," said Meghan Cooley, director of admissions. "We want to help people in our community gain some up-front knowledge so they can approach their college search with confidence."

Cooley emphasized that the program is intended for anyone who has an interest in how the college search takes place, saying, "We won't be 'selling' Augustana, but rather offering practical and helpful information and tools to aid in the college search process — lessons that will apply regardless of which schools our participants might consider attending."

The workshop includes informational sessions titled "Keys to a Successful College Search" and "How to Pay for it All." The schedule also features breakout sessions on college athletics, the fine arts and residential life. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to take an interactive campus tour designed to teach participants how to make the most of their campus visits.

"Students invest a lot of time, energy and resources in the college search," said Cooley. "Knowing what to expect, which questions to ask and what to look for will help them make the most of their efforts."
