Our 150 years of learning and leadership
Augustana College opened its doors in a small frame building on Superior Street in Chicago on Sept. 1, 1860.
Through its 150 years of history, Augustana's mission has evolved with the integration of the Swedish immigrant community into American society, and today Augustana is considered one of the nation's premier colleges of the liberal arts and sciences.

Preserve Old Main
The place that links us
This is the year we take steps to preserve Old Main, the one building that links every living Augustana graduate.
"Old Main is a symbol of the vision and dedication not just of our founders, but also of generations of students, professors and all those who have maintained a stalwart devotion to the vital role of higher education in transforming lives," said President Steve Bahls.

ADMISSIONS
"Good Fit" photos tell a great story
Viewbooks and visits have been our main recruitment resources but new media has changed our work. For the fall of 2010 we introduced the Good Fit T-Shirt Scholarship Competition at www.augustana.edu/goodfit
We challenged our campus visitors to show their "good fit" in photos of themselves wearing Augie t-shirts. Entries were posted on the site, and viewers vote for their favorites. We'll have one scholarship winner in each of four categories, plus a people's choice winner. Each scholarship is a one-time $1,000 award.

At bat in Australia
Andi Walker, a senior from Plainfield, Ill., plays second base on the softball team, which traveled to Australia over holiday break to play.
"I learned about a new culture... gaining a new love for softball by seeing how loved it is overseas. Watching others play with the same passion as our team makes me realize how proud I am to play with a team as excellent as the Augustana Vikings." Read more
