2008-2009 Season - Rachel Gahn named to ESPN – The Magazine Academic All-District team
Rock Island, Illinois – Augustana junior Rachel Gahn (Edina HS, Edina, Minn.) has been named to the ESPN – The Magazine Academic All-District team in the at-large division, it was announced today. Gahn, a standout golfer for the Vikings, was a second team selection.
She is coming off a tremendous junior season where she was selected as her team’s Most Valuable Player for the third consecutive year. She had the lowest average on the team at 82.4 with 1,319 strokes in 16 rounds of play in the 2007-08 campaign. Gahn was in the top 10 of 10 different invitationals and placed in the top five a total of six times. Her best round of the year was a 75 at the Augustana Fall Classic on September 6.
She shot under 80 on three other occasions as well including a 77 and 79 at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship meet, which earned her a third place finish. Gahn had three wins on the season, shooting a 76 at the Augustana Triangular on September 1 and a two round total of 165 at the Hickory Point Open on April 18-19. Those two wins were in addition to her victory at the Augustana Invitational.
A model of consistency, Gahn has been the team’s low scorer in each of the last three seasons. She was ninth in the CCIW as a sophomore and had seven top five finishes in invitationals. She won the Monmouth Invitational and was second in two other invitationals that season. As a freshman in 2005-06 she was in the top 10 in six different invitational including wins at the North Central Invitational and the Wyndyke Classic.
She has been named a “Scholar-Athlete” by the National Golf Coaches Association during all three years at Augustana. She sports a 3.92 grade point average with a major in chemistry.
