2008-2009 Season - Rachel Gahn named MVP of Augustana women’s golf team

Rock Island, Ill. –  Rachel Gahn (Edina HS, Edina, Minn.) has been named Most Valuable Player for the 2007-08 Augustana women’s golf team. Gahn, a junior, shared the award a year ago. She led the Vikings with an average round of 82.4 strokes and her low round of 75 at the Augustana Fall Classic was a Viking season best. She shot under 80 on three other occasions as well, including a 77 and 79 at the CCIW championships, which earned her a third place finish. Gahn had three wins on the season, shooting a 76 at the Augustana Triangular and a two-round 165 at the Hickory Point Open in addition to her Augustana Fall Classic win.

Junior Shasta Ketcham (Danville HS, Danville, Iowa) and sophomore Katy Mascheri (Hersey HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) shared the team’s Most Improved Player award. Ketcham averaged 106.9 strokes over seven rounds and Mascheri had a 101.7 average over 14 rounds.

Junior Heather Arizpe (Conant HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) and Ketcham shared the Most Inspirational Player award. Arizpe was third on the team with an 88.1 stroke average. She had a low round of 81 at the CCIW championships, where her two-round total of 169 garnered her 14th place. Arizpe was also chosen as team captain.

Jessica Berens (Schaumburg HS, Schaumburg, Ill.) was chosen Most Valuable Freshman. Berens averaged 96.2 strokes per round with a low of 86 at the CCIW championships, where she finished 21st with a two-round score of 176.
