Multicultural Student Orientation

This two-day event on the Tuesday preceding campus-wide Orientation includes panel discussions with current students, the College's Deans, and faculty members.  Participants enjoy events such as a camp-out on the Quad, movies and a meals with their peers.  The purpose of this event to help students become acclimated to college life, make new friends and meet people who will serve as resources to help new students become successful members of the Augustana community.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

On the Saturday of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, the Augustana and Quad Cities community co-sponsor a special evening of memoriam, music and motivation to honor Dr. King's legacy.  This event is high energy and serves as the prelude to the Monday celebrations in the Quad Cities community. 


Speaker Series

In conjunction with the Office of Academic Affairs' Convocation series, the Center for Leadership and Service, the Office of Student Activities, the Office of Diversity Services hosts speakers of local and national prominence. Recent speakers have included Minniejean Brown Trickey of the Little Rock Nine, Dr. Juan Andrade of US Hispanic Leadership Institute; Callie Crossley, writer, producer Eyes on the Prize and 20/20; and Martin Doblmeier, Journey Films writer and director of the Power of Forgiveness PBS movie. 

Off-Campus Events

Attendance of off-campus workshops and conferences is made possible through financial support from the Office of Diversity Services.  Some of the conference and events have included the White Privilege Conference, USHLI, N.C.O.R.E. and service opportunities for student groups.
