Creating a Good First Impression
Be Punctual- Make a trial run to the prospective employer's office to familiarize yourself with location, travel time and parking.
- Arrive approximately 15 minutes early to check your appearance and collect your thoughts.
- If you are going to be unavoidably late, notify the interviewer.
- Try on your interview outfit prior to the interview to see how you look and feel in it.
- Research the organization to help you identify the standard dress code.
- Dress conservatively in accordance with the organization image. It will make a difference in the overall impression you send.
- Conservative, tailored suit or dress
- Cotton or silk blouse (white, off white or pastel colors)
- Shined, medium-heeled pump
- Easy on the make-up
- Trim your fingernails
- Avoid showy or "big" jewelry
- Dark, conservative, tailored suit
- Long-sleeved, pressed shirt (even in the summer)
- Silk tie (avoid flashy patterns)
- Shined shoes & dark dress socks
- Leave any earrings at home
- Briefcase or portfolio
- Hair should be neatly trimmed and groomed
- Avoid wearing too much cologne or perfume
- Shoes should be polished and coordinate with your outfit
