Requirements

Potential majors in biology or the pre-professional areas must begin their curriculum with one year of general chemistry (usually Chemistry 121, 122 and 123), and the major with Biology 200 and 210.

Major in Biology - 30 credits at the 200-level or above, including the core courses 200, 210, 220 and 370. Beyond the core courses, the student may choose any 200 or above biology course to apply toward the major. BI200 and 210 must be completed within 1 year of declaring the major; BI220 and 370 must be completed within 2 years of declaring the major. Required supporting courses: general chemistry (9 credits from the list - CH121, 122, 123/225 and 200 or equivalent. Recommended supporting courses: courses in statistics and computer science. For students expecting to work toward a MS or PhD degree in the biological sciences: Chemistry 311-312-313, Mathematics 219, and Physics 101-102-103 or Physics 201-202-203.

Major in Teaching Biology - 30 Credit hours, including Bi200, 210, 220, 308, 310, 343, either 360 or 362, 370, 375, and one of 380, 323 or 387. Required supporting courses: general chemistry (9 hours), physics (9 hours), Gg101, Gl 101, one of Gl103, Gg103 or Gl115, and As315.

Minor in Biology - 18 credits beyond the 100-level, including Biology 200, 210, 220, and 370. Required supporting courses include 9 credits from this list: Chemistry 121, 122, 123/200 and 225 or equivalent.
