Augustana Alumni Survey – Fall 2007

To make sure our programs are as effective as possible, Augustana routinely surveys alumni at various career or life stages, principally five and 10 years after graduation. This fall, the classes of 1997 and 2002 were surveyed using a survey form developed by the Higher Education Data Sharing (HEDS) consortium. Some highlights of the survey are:

  • Overall satisfaction with Augustana was high - 98% of Augustana's alums indicated they were "generally" or "very" satisfied with their undergraduate education.
  • Alumni were particularly satisfied with the quality of teaching (72% very satisfied), contact with faculty (69% very satisfied) and courses in their major field (61% very satisfied).
  • The abilities that alumni report were enhanced the most by Augustana were thinking analytically and logically, acquiring new skills and knowledge, developing a desire for continued learning, and functioning independently.
  • 81% of alumni report their Augustana education prepared them moderately or greatly for their post-baccalaureate education, 83% for their current career.
  • 90% of alumni indicated that their current career was directly or indirectly related to their major field of study.
  • 35% of alumni went on the year after graduation to full-time graduate or professional school and 57% have completed an advanced degree - 41% a masters degree, 12% a professional degree, and 4% a PhD. 19% are currently working on an advanced degree.
