Crime statistics
Augustana College compiles its statistics on crime through regular contact with a variety of sources. These statistics are compiled and classified in accordance with the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting System. The Office of Security Services routinely solicits crime information from the Rock Island Police Department, Residential Life, the Dean of Students, and the Office of Student Activities.
At the beginning of each term, employees who have significant responsibility for student and campus activities are reminded of their obligation to report crimes as "Campus Crime Authorities." Examples of "campus officials" include athletic coaches and faculty advisors for student groups as well as the offices mentioned above. Reporting of criminal activity and alcohol-related violations that occur during events sanctioned by the college at off-campus locations is facilitated through contact with a liaison officer appointed by the Rock Island Police Department.
The Dean of Students and the Office of Security Services publish the annual report. A daily log of reported crimes is maintained by the Security Department and is available weekdays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the Security Office on the ground floor of Sorensen Hall.
Every effort is made to ensure that the information provided is complete and accurate. Persons having questions are asked to contact the college's CSSA Tim Swann at (309) 794-7428.
