Augustana College recognizes that faculty research and scholarship are important to the continued development of our academic programs and to student learning. The quality of Augustana's curriculum and faculty has been recognized through grants from major foundations including:
- Kresge Foundation
- Mellon Foundation
- National Endowment for the Humanities
- National Science Foundation
- Pew Charitable Trusts
- Dow Chemical Company Foundation
- W.M. Keck Foundation
- American Council of Learned Societies
- National Institutes of Health
A $7.5 million grant from the F.W. Olin Foundation that financed the construction of the F.W. Olin Center for Educational Technology further acknowledged Augustana's academic excellence and commitment to student learning.
Augustana Grant Officers
The Augustana grants officers encourage, assist and support faculty, administration and staff as they seek internal and external funding sources that enhance the college's ability to achieve its mission, that strengthen academic and college departments, and that lead to greater professional development.
The grant officers can:
- Help identify and publicize both internal and external funding sources
- Help with the writing process; coordinating with those at Augustana who can help, as well as external aides
- Assist with budget creation and setting up proper procedures with the Business Office
- Coordinate internal reviews and approvals
- Serve as a liaison, as needed, with funding sources and grants officers
- Help in administrative work after an award is made
Incentives for Grants
To encourage those who seek external grant funding, Augustana provides Proposal Incentive Awards (PIA). These awards are granted after submission of a proposal or application to an external granting organization. The awards are $250 for proposals with budgets between $20,000 and $60,000, and $500 for proposals with budgets in excess of $60,000. The maximum award will be $750 in any given year. When a proposal has more than one principal investigator, the PIA will be shared. PIA funds will be provided either as a stipend (subject to taxes) or can be added to the Professional Meeting Allowance account tax-free.
