Visitors advised of bridge closure
August 26, 2014
Visitors may wish to take a different route to Augustana if their usual route includes the Centennial Bridge across the Mississippi River. The bridge closed Aug. 3 and is slated to reopen Oct. 10.
The IDOT originally set Sept. 6 as the date for the bridge to reopen, but on Tuesday officials said the project is behind schedule and will require the production of new steel beams.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the closure and a schedule of additional lane closures needed while $3.35 million of repairs are made to the structure between Rock Island and Davenport, Iowa.
Visitors coming to Augustana via Interstate 80 from the west may wish to take Interstate 280. Use Exit 290. After crossing the Mississippi via the I-280 bridge, exit onto Illinois 92 East (Centennial Expressway) in Rock Island. Then exit onto to 31st Avenue and continue to 38th Street. Turn left onto 38th Street to Augustana.
Partial lane closures on the bridge will vary from day to day depending on the work being done through mid October.
