Visitors advised of bridge closure July 28-Sept. 6
July 22, 2014
Visitors and returning students may wish to take a different route to Augustana this summer if their usual route includes the Centennial Bridge across the Mississippi River. The bridge will be closed Aug. 3-Sept. 6.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the closure and a schedule of additional lane closures needed while $3.35 million of repairs are made to the structure between Rock Island and Davenport, Iowa.
Visitors coming to Augustana via Interstate 80 from the west may wish to take Interstate 280. Use Exit 290. After crossing the Mississippi via the I-280 bridge, exit onto Illinois 92 East (Centennial Expressway) in Rock Island. Then exit onto to 31st Avenue and continue to 38th Street. Turn left onto 38th Street to Augustana.
The exact dates of the complete bridge closure will be announced when the time period is known for certain, the DOT said. The timing is dependent on the manufacture of the steel components and the availability of specialized equipment.
Partial lane closures on the bridge will vary from day to day depending on the work being done in July through early October.
All work is scheduled to be finished by early October.
