Foreign language courses offered to high school students

February  10, 2014

Augustana College is offering area high school students in the Quad Cities the opportunity to further their advanced foreign language study. Through this program, Augustana will make available each term, to qualifying participants, a select set of upper-level foreign language courses including Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Spanish and Swedish.

Eligible participants must be currently enrolled in high school in the Quad-Cities area. They also will need to have completed a minimum of four years of high school study in a single language, or have earned a score of 4 or higher on the AP exam in the appropriate language.

The cost is $1,000 for a regular three-credit language course, which is less than a quarter of the cost of regular tuition for one three-credit course. Students who enroll in this program and subsequently enroll at Augustana as degree-seeking students are eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend the college.

To participate, individuals should apply to the program by completing the one-page application or send a printed application to Augustana College, Office of the Registrar, 639 38th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201.

Registration for the courses will start during the previous term’s final exam week (the week of May 19 for fall term 2014) and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. For exact dates and times for classes, registration and other information, please contact the Office of the Registrar at (309) 794-7277 or lieslfowler@augustana.edu.
