Cokie Roberts to speak at fundraiser for WVIK Radio

Cokie Roberts, a Morning Edition contributor and former congressional correspondent, will appear Thursday, March 27, on behalf of WVIK, Augustana Public Radio, for a gala fundraising dinner in the Gold Room of the Hotel Blackhawk in downtown Davenport.

The event, An Evening with Cokie Roberts, will feature cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and her speech about everything from her own life story to the political climate in the United States today. Tickets are $100 each and are available through the wvik.org website or by calling WVIK at (309) 794-7552.

Roberts will be the first in a series of NPR reporter/anchors to visit WVIK on an annual basis to bolster community support for the mission of the public radio station.time for us right after the primary elections. We know she’s very busy, and she’s making he's making time for us right after the primary elections. It's very exciting."

After gaining recognition as a top correspondent for National Public Radio, Roberts has become perhaps its most famous denizen, also joining ABC News as a political reporter, host and analyst, winning three Emmys, and authoring multiple best-selling books on her wide-ranging career and personal interests. In 2008, the Library of Congress named her a "Living Legend," one of the very few Americans to have attained that honor.

Now 70 years old, she has recentlty completed her latest book, Founding Mothers: Remembering the Ladies, which highlights the female patriots of the American Revolution.After gaining notoriety as a top correspondent for National Public Radio, Roberts has become perhaps its most famous denizen, also joining ABC News as a political reporter, host and analyst, winning three Emmys, and authoring multiple best-selling books on her wide-ranging career and personal interests. The lead sponsor is UnityPoint Health-Trinity, with additional support provided by Leo Schubert and Susan Sharar, Lawrence and Kathryn Allen, and Tony and Joyce Singh. Ticket sales and additional donations will go toward funding general operations of WVIK and its public service mission.

While in the Quad Cities, Roberts also plans to spend time with college students and healthcare professionals from UnityPoint Health-Trinity on Augustana’s campus, and she’ll join the congregation of the Humility of Mary to celebrate their 150th anniversary.
