Reisner watershed talk kicks off Class Uncorked
January 17, 2014
Dr. Michael Reisner, director of Augustana's Upper Mississippi Studies Center, will present "What's in the Watershed" at 6 p.m. Jan. 29 at Cool Beanz Coffeehouse, 1325 30th St., Rock Island.
His talk is the first in a new series called “Class Uncorked.” The series will include short and informal talks by experts in different fields followed by free-form Q&A.
According to Dr. Reisner, at the inaugural event he will discuss a partnership with the cities of Rock Island and Moline to assess the health of urban streams and related ecosystems.
The idea for Class Uncorked grew out of several conversations involving recent Augustana graduates who are established young leaders in the Quad Cities. Augustana professors, many of whom are globally recognized in their fields, have embraced the concept.
“Augustana is always thrilled to share its hometown with visitors, but this is a special chance to share our home neighborhood with our fellow Quad Citians,” said Kai Swanson, executive assistant to the president at Augustana. “Cool Beanz is the kind of gem that makes people want to come back to the neighborhood again and again, and we’re happy to partner with them.”
