Dining Services to host Cookie Cook-off for employees
December 02, 2013
Augustana’s dining services will spread holiday cheer by hosting its first Augustana Cookie Cook-off on Friday, Dec. 20, 2-6 p.m. The event will be held in the dining room and kitchen of the Center for Student Life (3435 9 ½ Ave.). It is a private gathering for Augustana faculty, staff and their families.
The theme for the cookie cook-off is “Peace on Earth.” Those who attend will compete to see who can make the most cookies. The goal is to decorate as many as 2,000 cookies. Half of the cookies will be donated to Quad-Cities area non-profit organizations, while the other half will be available for the participants to take home.
Augustana’s dining services will supply personnel and facilities for the event, and Performance Food Group will donate the cookie dough and decorations.
Director of Dining Services Garry Griffith, organizer of the event, wants to spread holiday spirit and bring the campus community together. He envisions the event becoming an annual event.
“I feel there is a need to connect more people on campus. Many times we get so busy we forget the importance of developing relationships outside of our departments,” said Griffith. “This event gives Augustana faculty and staff a chance to connect with others while giving back to the community in a fun, festive environment.”
Griffith added, “This also will give us the opportunity to involve our families and do something for others during the holiday season. Isn’t that what Christmas is about?”
