Military appreciation event set for Nov. 9

October  22, 2013

Augustana College will host a military appreciation day to honor active duty and retired military personnel at the final home game of the Vikings football season on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Charles D. Lindberg Stadium (520 38th St., Rock Island). Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Those military members in attendance will be recognized for their service, as the Vikings face the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan University.

The college is working with the U.S. Army at the Rock Island Arsenal to help arrange the details and will offer free admission to local troops. Each military member, along with one guest, will receive free admittance simply by providing proper military credentials at the gate on game day.

The new stadium will also open its doors on Saturday, Oct. 26, to two local contractors responsible for significant campus construction, Estes Construction and Russell Construction. Construction crew members, along with one guest, will receive free admission and game day recognition when the Vikings take on North Park University, with the kick-off at 6 p.m.

One of the wishes of the late Charles D. Lindberg, for whom the stadium was named, was to provide “a real game day experience” for Viking fans, along with the hope that more people would enjoy the games as much as he did.
