WVIK promotes general manager Jay Pearce
August 16, 2013
Jay Pearce, general manager of WVIK 90.3 FM, Augustana Public Radio, is assuming the title of chief executive officer of Augustana Public Radio and general manager of WVIK.
The promotion comes just two years after Pearce arrived at WVIK from Illinois Public Media in Urbana, and signals the college’s confidence in his ability to lead the station through a period of new growth, according to W. Kent Barnds, Augustana’s executive vice president of enrollment, communication and planning.
“He's able to bring together the mission of the station and the needs of the community in a way that benefits all of those involved," said Barnes.
WVIK was honored this year with eight awards for journalistic excellence, has debuted new programming, and recently completed new marketing and development plans.
“We are poised for some exciting growth over the next two to five years that will allow us to better serve existing audiences and reach out to new audiences through new media channels,” Pearce said.
During his 38-year career in radio, Pearce has held a variety of positions at stations in Illinois, Missouri and Texas. Before joining WVIK, he was responsible for locally created content for all public broadcasting stations licensed to the University of Illinois.
The NPR-affiliated WVIK radio station is owned by Augustana College, and its studios are located on Augustana’s campus in Rock Island. WVIK reaches listeners in a 75-mile radius over northwestern Illinois, eastern Iowa and southwestern Wisconsin, and serves an estimated 1.4 million listeners every year.
