Run funds program for families with kids with autism
July 10, 2013
Thanks to the recent Royal Ball Run for Autism, organizers donated $10,000 to Augustana’s Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing to provide scholarships for children with autism who receive speech-language therapy at the center and to support the More Than Words program.
“It is incredibly rewarding to raise funds for services like those offered by Augustana’s Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing,” said Jennifer Hartmann, Royal Ball Run for Autism chair. “It’s just as important for us, however, to raise awareness of local programs and connect children and families affected by autism to the help they need to succeed.”
The More Than Words program, which begins in late September, supports families with young children who have autism. The program helps families learn strategies for improving communication, includes home visits from certified speech-language pathologists and provides an eight-week hands-on learning component.
Space is limited for the More Than Words program. Because of funding provided by the Royal Ball Run, families may participate at no charge.
Families interested in More Than Words or other programs offered by Augustana’s Center for Speech, Language, and Hearing may call 309-794-7350 for more information.
