Music faculty to perform live on Chicago's WFMT

Augustana College Department of Music faculty members Kara Bancks, Dr. Deborah Dakin and Dr. Charles Schmidt will perform live on WFMT Radio in Chicago at 8 p.m. on June 17.  The performance will include trios for clarinet, viola and piano by Bruch, Debussy, Mozart and Verdi.

Kara Bancks, a part-time music instructor at Augustana, has served as principal clarinetist for the Elmhurst Symphony and Millennium Chamber Players. She is committed to contemporary music and frequently commissions new works from emerging composers.

Dr. Deborah Dakin teaches viola at Augustana and is principal violist for the Quad City Symphony Orchestra. She is involved with many music education and community outreach programs throughout the Quad Cities and western Iowa, and is a founding member of the Iowa Chamber Players.

Dr. Charles Schmidt is a member of the Augustana piano faculty who has worked extensively in the fields of musical theatre and opera, both as an accompanist and music director. He also has presented lectures for many organizations across the U.S. and has been featured on Iowa Public Radio several times.            

The performance will air on WFMT's live performance and conversation series, Live From WFMT, which airs every Monday night on 98.7 FM in the Chicago area and online at www.wfmt.com.
