Rindone and Patton both under 400 record

Senior Alex Rindone broke his own school record in the 400 with a time of :47.43 on Friday, May 17 at the Twilight Qualifier. Fellow senior Greg Patton was also under the school record with a time of :47.72.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Senior Alex Rindone (Marmion Academy, Geneva, Ill.) broke his own school record in the 400 in the Augustana Twilight Qualifier on Friday, May 17 at Paul V. Olsen Track. Rindone won with a time of :47.43 and he was pushed the whole way by fellow senior Greg Patton (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) who took second in :47.72.

Both runners finished the race under Rindone's previous record of :47.76 set at the Meet of Champions on April 20. The two also teamed up in the 400 relay as the Vikings won with a time of :41.03. Joining Rindone and Patton were sophomores David Devore (Midland HS, Midland, Mich.) and Keith Cline (Byron HS, Byron, Ill.).

In all, the Vikings won seven events in the meet.

Sophomore David Voland (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) won the 400 intermediate hurdles in :51.77. Senior Jonathan Smith (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) took the 5000 in 15:14.17 and sophomore Vincenzo Dal Pozzo (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) won the 800 in 1:52.30. Sophomore Isaac Trostle (Willowbrook HS, Lombard, Ill.) won the 3000 steeplechase in 9:43.27.

The 1600 relay team of senior Daniel Doubet (Galesburg HS, Galesburg, Ill.), sophomore Kyle Bennett (Davenport West HS, Davenport, Iowa), junior Steve Zahrobsky (Downers Grove South HS, Woodridge, Ill.) and sophomore Antonio Owens (Naperville North HS, Bolingbrook, Ill.) won in 3:18.39.

The Vikings will compete in the NCAA Division III national meet, which will begin this Thursday, May 23 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
