Post-grad plans: I am applying to medical schools this spring!
Why did you choose to attend Augustana?
I chose to attend Augustana because of the many academic, musical and athletic activities available for students to participate in. I also valued the close faculty/student relationships, intimate class sizes as well as the wide range of classes and disciplines to choose from.
Are you where you thought you’d be four years ago?
Four years ago, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine, and that still holds true today. However, I have grown substantially spiritually, emotionally and intellectually from my experiences at Augustana that I could not have anticipated. I am thankful to those who challenged me in all of these areas.
Who helped you get to where you are now?
My parents have been so supportive throughout my college career, and I am eternally grateful. Many of the science faculty members have played instrumental roles in guiding through these four years. In addition, the women of the Augustana track & field team have been fierce friends and a strong support system.
A peak experience?
A highlight of my experience at Augustana was studying abroad in Ecuador during the summer of 2010! I felt strongly that the only way I was going to learn to speak Spanish well was to immerse myself in a culture of Spanish-speaking people. This opportunity allowed me to put aside my inhibitions about speaking a foreign language, experience a culture other than my own, and become a more independent person.
How did you use your Augie Choice?
I used my Augie Choice money to help pay for living expenses while studying abroad in Ecuador.
What did you learn about yourself in these past four years that surprised you?
I learned that I can lighten up! There were times when I struggled to maintain a balance between classes, relationships and other activities. I grew through this struggle and learned to always maintain balance, roll with the punches and adapt to new situations when things don’t always go as planned.
What will you miss the most?
I will miss the wonderful friends that I have made while at Augustana who have become like family to me. I will also miss being a part of an athletic team and a member of a musical ensemble. This beautiful campus will be hard to leave!
Advice for the Class of 2017?
Don't be afraid to put yourself out there, experience as much as you can and take advantage of all that Augustana has to offer.
