Vandersee named MVP of women's golf

Senior Megan Vandersee has been named the "Most Valuable Performer" for the 2012-13 Augustana women's golf team. She recorded eight top-10 finishes, five top-5 performances, and two individual tournament victories during the season.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.-Senior Megan Vandersee (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) has been named the "Most Valuable Performer" for the 2012-13 Augustana women's golf team. She led the Vikings with an average round of 87.4 strokes, with her lowest single round score of the season being a 78 in the first round of the Maryville Spring Invitational on April 7. She also led the team with eight top-10 finishes, five top-5 performances, and two individual tournament victories. Her individual tournament titles came at the Mustang Fall Classic on September 22 & 23 and at the Prairie Fire Spring Invitational on April 5.

Junior Jamie Lawrence (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) was chosen as the team's Most Inspirational Player for the second consecutive year. She also earned the Sportswoman award. Lawrence had an average round of 90.5 strokes, with a low round of 81. She finished the year with three top-10 performances, two top-5 finishes, and an individual victory at the dual meet with St. Ambrose on August 25.  

Samantha Barlage (Marian Catholic HS, Lansing, Ill.) was named the team's Most Valuable Freshman. She shot an average of 94.1 strokes per round. She finished in the top-10 at four tournaments and in the top-5 at three others.  

Sophomore Kristen Hirtzer (Mother McCauley HS, Palos Hills, Ill.) was awarded the Most Improved Player honor. She average 104.7 strokes per round.  

Freshman Michelle Dempster (Mother McCauley HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) earned Scholar/Athlete honors. Her average score per round was 94.2 and she accumulated two top-10 finishes for the season.
