Vikings ninth at Schreiner Spring Shootout

Sophomore Jake Groselak had Augustana's best round Tuesday, shooting an 83 at the Schreiner Spring Shootout in Kerrville, Texas.

KERRVILLE, Texas - Jake Groselak's (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) round of 83 led Augustana on Tuesday, February 26 as the Vikings opened the spring portion of their schedule by finishing ninth at the Schreiner Spring Shootout. Originally scheduled for two days, the tournament was cut to a single-round event by inclement weather.

Groselak's effort earned him 34th place individually. The sophomore finished one stroke and one place ahead of Augustana freshman David Ferlmann (Peoria Notre Dame HS, Dunlap, Ill.). Sophomore Grant Murphy (Dunlap HS, Peoria, Ill.) shot an 86 to tie for 41st. Rounding out the Viking contingent were sophomores Max Channon (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) and Josh Kukla (Zion Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.). Channon finished 46th with a round of 90, while Kukla's round of 92 tied him for 47th.  

Mary-Hardin Baylor won the team title with a collective round of 291. The hosts finished in second, eight strokes back. Trinity shot a 303 to finish third, followed by Hardin-Simmons (315), Concordia (316), UT-Dallas (317), Texas Lutheran (320), LeTourneau (340) and Augustana (343).  

Next up for Coach Paul Del Vecchio's Vikings is the Prairie Fire Classic in Galesburg, Illinois on March 29-30. Knox College will host the event at Soangetaha Country Club.
