AUGUSTANA 12, IMMACULATA 0

Freshman Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) benefitted from a 12 hit attack as Augustana blasted Immaculata 12-0 on Wednesday, February 27. Anderson tossed a four hitter with three strikeouts and no walks as she moved her record to 2-0 on the season.

The Vikings got out of the gate early with a pair of runs in the first inning. Sophomore Laura Behnke (Wheaton St. Francis HS, Roselle, Ill.) led off with a triple and sophomore Jenna Teson (Jacobs HS, Algonquin, Ill.) singled her home with the game's first run. Teson eventually scored on a sacrifice bunt from junior Jaime Rehmert (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) to make it 2-0 after one inning.

In the second freshman Cheyenne Burnett (Rock Falls HS, Rock Falls, Ill.) singled and that was followed by a single by Chaney Tambling (Dwight HS, Dwight, Ill.) which moved Burnett to third. Tambling went to second on a wild pitch with Burnett staying at third. A ground ball by junior Krista Watson (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) scored Burnett with Tambling moving to third. A single by Behnke brought home Tambling to make it 4-0.

With a 4-0 lead, the Vikings broke the game wide open with an eight run third. Senior Jenna Nelson (Orion HS, Orion, Ill.) started it off with a double and Rehmert doubled her home. Sophomore Jaclyn Wrona (Glenbard South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) also doubled to score Rehmert. The onslaught continued as Augustana pounded out six hits in the inning and was helped by three Immaculata errors. Behnke had a triple that plated two and Teson had an RBI single as well.

The Vikings were led on offense by Behnke with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored while Teson had two hits, two runs scored and two RBI.  Nelson also had a pair of hits while Rehmert and Watson each had two RBI.

AUGUSTANA 6, ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY 1

A 1-1 ball game was broken open in the fifth inning when Augustana scored three runs to take the lead for good from Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday, February 27 at the NTC Softball Complex in Clermont, Florida.  The Vikings scored five runs over the final three innings, leading to a 6-1 victory. This marked the second win for Augustana on the day, as it defeated Immaculata 12-0 earlier this morning.

After two scoreless innings, the Vikings scored the game's first run when Laura Behnke (Wheaton St. Francis HS, Roselle, Ill.) scored from third on an Alissa Dixon wild pitch. R.I.T. tied the game in the fourth when Sarah Wolcott doubled home Tori Nadow on a hit to center. At the conclusion of the fourth inning, Christie Wiersema (Morrison HS, Morrison, Ill.) replaced Jaime Rehmert (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) on the mound. Rehmert pitched four innings, allowing one run on two hits.

In the fifth inning, the Augustana offense erupted for three runs on two hits. Wiersema led off the inning with a double to right field. She then advanced to third on another Dixon wild pitch. Next up, Jenna Nelson (Orion HS, Orion, Ill.) worked a walk and was pinch run for by Kendra Rakers (Belleville West HS, Millstadt, Ill.). Rakers promptly stole second, putting two Vikings in scoring position. Amanda Johnson (York Community HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) took advantage and drove in both runners with a single to center. Lisa Bartha (Glenbard South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) was then called upon to pinch run for Johnson. Rehmert moved her over to second with a sacrifice bunt giving Augustana another RBI opportunity. Cheyenne Burnett (Rock Falls HS, Rock Falls, Ill.) grounded out to shortstop and Bartha advanced to third, but then was allowed to score on an error by R.I.T. first baseman, Anna Lorette. Ashley Anderson (Sherrard HS, Viola, Ill.) then flew out to center field to end the inning.

A Krista Watson (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) homerun to lead off the sixth and another run scored by Bartha on an error in the seventh gave the Vikings a five run lead that proved to be the final margin of victory. Wiersema pitched the final three innings of the game to earn the win. She faced 11 batters, giving up two hits while striking out four.

Augustana is now 7-1 on the season while Rochester Institute of Technology falls to 3-2.
