Kunz, Ryan named 2nd team All-CCIW

Senior center Brandon Kunz (Lake Zurich HS, Lake Zurich, Ill.) and freshman forward Ben Ryan (Washington HS, Washington, Ill.), who anchored Augustana's front line all season, have been named to the 2013 All-CCIW second team. The pair was instrumental as the Vikings put together a 19-8 record this year. In addition, Ryan was named the CCIW's first "Freshman of the Year."
Kunz was the Vikings' leading rebounder this season with an average of 7.0 per game and also led the team with 16 blocked shots. He was Augustana's second-leading scorer at 11.0 points per contest and shot .559 from the field and .781 from three free throw line. He recorded three double-doubles and had season-highs of 22 points and three blocked shots at Fontbonne, 14 rebounds at Aurora, four steals at Illinois Wesleyan and three assists on three occasions. In CCIW play, the 6' 7", 205-pound Kunz was the conference's fourth-leading rebounder (6.9 rpg) and fifth-best free throw shooter (.793) and also ranked in the league's top ten in field goal percentage and blocked shots.
Kunz finished his career seventh in school history with 105 games played and eighth in field goal percentage at .562. He also ranked 19th in career rebounds with 493 and tied for 12th in blocked shots with 41.
The 6' 5", 208-pound Ryan averaged 11.7 points per game this season and with 316 points became just the third freshman to lead Augustana in scoring, joining Drew Carstens in 2000-01 and Louis "Soup" Semeny in 1924-25. Ryan was the Vikings' second-leading rebounder this year at 6.8 per game, missing by just seven boards from becoming the first player ever to lead Augustana in scoring and rebounding as a freshman. He shot .516 from the field and .638 from the free throw line and had 35 assists, 26 steals and 10 blocked shots.
Ryan finished in the CCIW top ten in field goal percentage and rebounding. He posted six double-doubles and had high games of 21 points at Elmhurst, 13 rebounds against Wisconsin-Oshkosh, five assists versus St. Ambrose and five steals against Carthage.
