Graf, Ferguson and 400 free relay rewrite record book

Sophomore Jamie Graf set a new Augustana school record in the 200 breaststroke when she clocked 2:31.52 in the preliminary round at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championship on Saturday, February 16 in Wheaton, Illinois. Graf placed sixth in the event with her time of 2:32.59 in the final. She broke Mercedes Clingerman's 23-year old mark of 2:33.96.

WHEATON, Ill. - Sophomore Jamie Graf (Lincoln-Way Central HS, New Lenox, Ill. - now resides in Downers Grove, Ill.) broke the individual school record in the 200 breaststroke, senior Hillary Ferguson (Waubonsie Valley HS, Naperville, Illinois) took down a legendary name in the 100 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay team also set a new school mark in the final day of competition for Augustana at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships on Saturday, February 16 in Wheaton, Illinois. Graf eclipsed a record that was 23 years old and Ferguson broke a record held by former NCAA champion Julie Konchan while the 400 freestyle record's ink had been on the page for just a year.

Augustana finished fourth in the team standings with 445 points as Wheaton won with 985 points while Carthage was second (833.5) and Illinois Wesleyan third (482.5). Rose-Hulman placed fifth (305), North Central sixth (229) and Millikin seventh (181).  

Graf placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:32.59 but her record swim came in the preliminary round when she stopped the watches at 2:31.52. That broke Mercedes Clingerman's record of 2:33.96 set in 1990. Ferguson finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of :52.82, breaking Konchan's 1990 record of :53.04. Konchan was the 1990 NCAA Division III national champion in the 50 freestyle.  

The 400 freestyle relay team of senior Molly Clennon (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.), senior Alexandra Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.), freshman Emma Novak (Eden Prairie HS, Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Ferguson finished fourth in a school record time of 3:37.18. The old mark was 3:39.35 set in 2012 by Piper, current senior Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.), Clennon and Ferguson.  

Regnier placed seventh in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:17.11 after swimming 2:16.29 in the preliminary round. Novak was 12th in 2:25.93. Clennon finished ninth in the 100 freestyle in :54.48 while Piper was 13th in :55.50.  

Senior Emily Timmons (West Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.) took 12th in the 1650 freestyle (18:56.07) with junior Erin Doty (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) grabbing 13th in 19:12.05. Timmons was also 12th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:41.28 after recording a time of 2:40.21 in the prelims. Sophomore Laura Pemberton (Fremont HS, Fremont, Neb.) took 16th in the same event at 2:47.54 with a 2:45.84 time in the preliminary round.
