Last Saturday, Augustana junior Helen Myers (Pecatonica HS, Rock City, Ill.) won the one and three meter diving events at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships for the third year in a row. Today, Myers was named the CCIW's "Athlete of the Week" in women's swimming & diving for her work on Saturday.
Myers won both diving events in the CCIW for the third consecutive season and for the second year in a row she was named the conference's "Athlete of the Week" after doing so. Myers compiled 380.20 points in the one-meter event Saturday at Illinois Wesleyan to beat out freshman teammate Adelia Clark (Linn-Mar HS, Marion, Ill.), who took second with 329.30. Myers took the three-meter competition with 370.4 points, well ahead of second-place Nicole Richardson of Rose-Hulman (309.25). Clark finished fifth with 261.30.
Myers set a new pool record at Illinois Wesleyan's Shirk Center with her score of 370.40 in the three meter diving victory.
Her point totals this year were the best for each dive during her three-year domination of the diving competition. When she was a freshman in 2011 she won the one-meter with 339.00 points and took the three meter with 358.85 points. Last year, as a sophomore, she scored 343.20 to win the one-meter and 333.70 to take the three meter.
She saved her best for last this season as both point totals were her best scores in championship competition. In dual meets this year she had a best score off the one meter board (six dives) of 226.10 points against Monmouth on February 2. Her top dual meet score at three-meters was 228.98 on January 12 at home against Luther.
Myers, an anthropology major, is a two-time academic all-conference performer.
