Augustana drops two close duals at Monmouth

Senior Emma Regnier won the 100 butterfly, finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke and swam on Augustana's second-place 200 medley relay Saturday at Monmouth.

Monmouth, Ill.- Despite wins in five events, the Augustana women's swimming & diving team came up just short in a pair of dual competitions at Monmouth College Saturday. The Vikings were outscored 70-60 by Western Illinois and 68-62 by Monmouth and are now 3-3 in duals this season.

Junior Helen Myers (Pecatonica HS, Rock City, Ill.) and freshman Adelia Clark (Linn Mar HS, Marion, Ill.) claimed the top two spots in the one-meter diving competition. Myers compiled 226.10 points, while Clark totaled 217.85. Augustana freshman Megan McGregor (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) was fourth with 166.75.  

Senior Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) swam a 1:04.38 to win the 100 butterfly.  

The Vikings took first, fourth and fifth in both the 1000 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Freshman Emma Novak (Eden Prairie HS, Eden Prairie, Minn.) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:24.05, with junior Erin Doty (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) and senior Emily Timmons (East Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.) taking fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 11:49.18 and 11:57.84. In the 100 breaststroke, it was sophomore Jamie Graf (Lincoln-Way Central HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) winning in 1:11.88, Regnier taking fourth in 1:15.22 and freshman Jordan Johnson (Appleton North HS, Appleton, Wis.) finishing fifth in 1:19.38. Junior Hillary Ferguson (Waubonsie Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) was a winner as well, taking the 50 freestyle in :25.60, while senior Alexandra Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) was fifth in :26.76.  

In the 200 individual medley, Novak took second with a 2:18.23, while Timmons was fourth in 2:29.40 and junior Catherine Pittman (Mahomet-Seymour HS, Mahomet, Ill.) fifth in 2:31.97. Novak (2:28.20) was second in the 200 butterfly with junior Dana Jensen (Dundee Crown HS, Algonquin, Ill.) and sophomore Alexis Thompson (Crystal Lake Central HS, Lake in the Hills, Ill.) fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 2:43.78 and 2:58.39. Graf's 2:36.72 in the 200 breaststroke was good for second as well, with Timmons taking fifth in 2:51.13.  

The Viking 200 medley relay unit also garnered second place with a time of 1:58.59. Senior Molly Clennon (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.) led off, followed by Graf, Regnier and Ferguson.  

In the 500 freestyle, Clennon (5:41.09) was third and Doty (5:54.31) fourth. Clennon (2:06.12) was also third in the 200 freestyle with Piper (2:09.68)  finishing fifth.  

Piper, Clennon, Novak and Ferguson completed the 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.49 to finish third.  

In addition, Ferguson was fourth in the 100 freestyle and senior Hollyann Kabbe (Fenton HS, Bensenville, Ill.) took fifth in the 200 backstroke.  

Coach Scott Johannsen's Vikings will be competing in the upcoming CCIW championships. The diving competition takes place in Bloomington, Illinois on Saturday, February 9, while the swimming events will be held in Wheaton, Illinois on Thursday, February 14.
