Patton awarded CCIW honor

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Augustana senior Greg Patton (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) has been named the "Athlete of the Week" for men's track & field in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. Patton was a double winner at the Olivet Nazarene Invitational on Saturday, January 26 in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
Patton won the 400 with a time of :50.01. This time currently ranks him 12th in the nation. He also led off the winning 1600 meter relay. The relay recorded a time of 3:20.04, which is the fourth best time in the country to date.
Patton started the 2013 season with bang by winning the 400 in a time of :50.59 at the Sol Butler Invitational on January 12 in Dubuque, Iowa. He also ran a leg on the second-place finishing 1600 relay that recorded a time 3:26.06. At the Midwest Invitational on January 22 in Monmouth, Illinois, Patton placed third in the 300 with a time of :35.40.
During the outdoor season a year ago, Patton put together an impressive campaign. He was a member of both the 400 meter and 1600 meter relay teams that won CCIW titles. Both relay teams went to Claremont, California to compete at the NCAA Division III National meet, and both relays set new school records at the meet (400 relay in :40.88 & 1600 relay in 3:10.70). Patton earned two All-American honors as a member of the relays. Patton also excels in the classroom and was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team last year.
An accounting and political science major, Patton is the son of Greg & Eunice Patton of Bloomington, Illinois.
