Holt and Reppy win events at Grinnell Invite

Sophomore Aaron Holt won the 100 butterfly at the Grinnell Invitational on Saturday, January 19 with a time of :52.60.

GRINNELL, Iowa - Sophomore Aaron Holt (Mount Vernon HS, Mount Vernon, Ill.) and junior Justin Reppy (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) posted individual victories as Augustana placed third as the seven-team Grinnell Invitational concluded on Saturday, January 18 in Grinnell, Iowa. Holt won the 100 butterfly in :52.60 and Reppy cruised to a 17:23.25 victory in the 1650 freestyle as the Vikings scored 909 points to finish behind host Grinnell (1253.5) and Gustavus Adolphus (1009.5). Luther was fourth with 754 and Macalester (254), Simpson (211) and Coe (174) rounded out the field.

Holt also took second in the 50 freestyle in :21.85 and added legs on the 400 freestyle relay that took third (3:17.95) and the 200 medley relay that finished fourth (1:40.94). Holt was joined on the 400 free team by senior Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.), sophomore Michael Duy (Marmion Academy, Aurora, Ill.) and junior Daniel Hinck (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.). The 200 medley unit consisted of Holt, freshman Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.), freshman David Sommers (Westlake HS, Thousand Oaks, Calif.) and Hinck.

Reppy tossed in a fifth place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.65 to go along with his victory in the 1650. Sophomore Josh Wielenga (School Environmental Study, Apple Valley, Minn.) took second in the one meter diving event with 393.14 points.

Sommers, who one day earlier broke the Augustana school record in winning the 200 butterfly, was second behind Holt in the 100 with a time of :52.99. He also placed sixth in the 1650 behind Reppy's victory with a time of 18:05.11.

Duy placed third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.45 while freshman Adam Bernardi (Rockford Boylan Catholic HS, Belvidere, Ill.) placed third in the 400 individual medley in 4:28.82. Hernandez took fourth in the 200 backstroke in 2:03.27 and eighth in the 400 individual medley (4:38.08).

Hinck was sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:50.70) and 50 freestyle (:22.76). Greaves placed seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:51.06) and 200 backstroke (2:06.71).
