Men's swimming beats Luther on "Senior Day"

Junior Justin Reppy won the 1000 freestyle in 10:42.22 and the 500 freestyle in 5:01.83 as Augustana moved to 4-0 with an impressive 139-84 win over Luther on Saturday, January 12 in the Carver Pool on "Senior Day".

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Double victories by junior Justin Reppy (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.), sophomore Aaron Holt (Mount Vernon HS, Mount Vernon, Ill.) and sophomore Josh Wielenga (School Environmental Study, Apple Valley, Minn.) helped Augustana stay undefeated in men's swimming action. The Vikings defeated a highly regarded Luther team 139-84 on Saturday, January 12 in the Carver Center Pool to move to 4-0 on the season.

Reppy continues to round into form after sitting out his sophomore season and he won the 1000 freestyle in 10:42.22 and the 500 freestyle in 5:01.83. Holt ripped off victories in the 50 freestyle (:22.48) and 100 backstroke (:54.75). Wielenga took the three meter diving with a score of 191.70 and then tallied 219.30 to win the one meter events.  

Augustana won nine individual events and one relay on "Senior Day". The Vikings went one-two in three events and, after losing the 200 medley relay to open the meet, captured six straight events to spark the victory.  

Junior Daniel Hinck (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) won the 200 freestyle in 1:49.21 and was second in the 100 freestyle in :49.97. Freshman Adam Bernardi (Rockford Boylan HS, Belvidere, Ill.) took the 200 individual medley (2:02.39) and placed third in the 100 butterfly (:57.02). Freshman David Sommers (Westlake HS, Thousand Oaks, Calif.) placed first in the 100 butterfly (:54.24) and third in the 200 freestyle (1:50.60).  

The 200 freestyle relay of Holt, senior Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.), sophomore Michael Duy (Marmion Academy, Aurora, Ill.) and Hinck put an exclamation point on the win with a 1:30.07 victory in the final event of the meet.  

Duy took second in the 200 freestyle (1:50.48) and the 500 freestyle (5:05.67) and Greaves was third in the 100 freestyle (:50.82). Junior Austin Zarbuck (Urbana HS, Urbana, Ill.) placed second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:53.34. Freshman Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) was third in the 200 individual medley (2:07.10) and the 100 breaststroke (1:05.61). Freshman Kyle Johnson (Shadow Mountain HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) finished third in the 100 backstroke in :58.30.  

The 200 medley relay team of Johnson, Hernandez, Sommers and Greaves placed second in 1:42.65.  

Augustana's next competition will be at the Grinnell Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa on Friday, January 18 and Saturday, January 19.
